Best Natural Anti-Aging Tips
Youthful looking skin and health start from within. Unleash great skin with these natural anti-aging tips!
Tip #1: Eat lots of fish
Fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids (such as salmon, herring, and mackerel) are great for healthy skin. Omega-3 fatty acids are necessary for keeping skin moisturized, thick, and supple. In fact, a deficiency in omega-3 fats is notorious for causing dry skin! Fatty fish is a good source of vitamin E – a critical component in preventing inflammation and damage from free radicals. Last but not least, fish is a good source of zinc – a mineral essential for keeping inflammation at bay, and encouraging the production of skin cells.
Tip #2: Drink tons of water
Mom was right. You REALLY need to up your water intake. Drinking enough water gets you noticeable skin results – refined facial contours, improved skin tone … you basically look more radiant. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day helps your body get rid of toxins. Remember that your skin is an organ. And like other organs, it is made up of cells. Cells are made up of water. If your skin isn’t getting sufficient water, hydration will show up through tight, flaky, and dry skin. Dry skin = wrinkling.
Tip #3: Keep your skin hydrated with a humidifier
It IS possible to wake up with smoother, plump, younger-looking skin! How?
Use a humidifier in your bedroom at night. No need for fancy, huge, expensive models. A small bedside humidifier does wonders.
Tip #4: Wear sunscreen every day
You know the drill. Sunscreen protects your skin from sunburn and the damaging UV rays of the sun. On a more serious note, it also prevents skin cancer. The suns rays have been known to prematurely age the skin and cause wrinkles.
Tip #5: Get enough sleep every night
If you’re short on sleep, expect to look a little worse for wear. Sleep is one of the more important physiological processes. Unfortunately, its often something we skip on when we need to pull late nights. Our bodies repair and detoxify while we sleep. It restores hormonal balance. Getting enough sleep improves circulation especially around the eye area. It also decreases dryness and puffiness.
Tip #6: Follow a set skincare routine regularly
A solid, regular, skin care routine is key to great skin. Its never too early to start! Whether you’re simply maintaining appearance or at that stage of needing to have fillers, a sustainable, home skincare routine can drastically improve your complexion.
Tip #7: Avoid over-exfoliating
Scrubs are easy to overdo. While we all want, smoother skin, over-exfoliation can worsen wrinkles. Exfoliating too much removes your skin’s protective barrier.
Tip #8: Eat well
A nutritious, balanced diet hurt no one! In addition to keeping you fit and healthy, the food you eat matters to your skin as much as it does to your muscles and your waistline!
Tip #9: Use facial oils
Oils aren’t to be feared! Facial oils penetrate deeply into the skin. They are able to hydrate without that greasy, icky feel. Choose facial oils with Pro-vitamin B5 and vitamin E as these are great at locking in moisture immediately. Facial cleansers with these types of oils are less drying as well because oil binds to sebum without having to strip natural oils from your skin.
Tip #10: Drink less alcohol
We love the occasional glass of red wine. Unfortunately, alcohol really is bad for our skin. The body metabolizes alcohol from an enzyme found in your liver. This process releases acetaldehyde – a byproduct toxic to body tissues. It dries out your skin, makes it prone to acne, and ultimately causes premature aging.
Tip #11: Don’t pick at your skin
As tempting as it is, keep your hands off of your face! Stop picking at your skin. Let those breakouts come out on their own and use natural products to heal them. Pulling and picking at your skin causes damage, scars, and wrinkles.
Tip #12: Never forget to take your makeup off
Your skin needs to breathe. Proper cleansing washes away dirt, makeup, and impurities from the skin surface. In so doing, you reduce the risk of developing pimples. You also prevent redness and blackheads. By cleansing well, you get rid of anything that gets in the way of supple, well-moisturized skin.
Discover what works for you. It is never too early to start an anti-aging skin care routine. Got any tips? We’d love to hear your very own natural anti-aging tips as well!
I need to eat more salmon! Good article.
Thanks for the great tips, I have been doing this for awhile even before everyone started doing it. I use the under eye patches and would leave them on overnite. My eyes always look good with no sags. You have to use the ones that stay on and you don’t have to buy expensive ones.
